PATRICK COFFEY WINS SUFFOLK JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Friday 2nd June saw vast number of junior golfers both girls and boys assemble at Stowmarket Golf Club. It was a cool windy day and the recent weather had ensured that the rough was thick however the course was in excellent nick and the greens were also fantastic. The field of 51 was about 140% up on last year and is testament to the work of the Junior Chairs Trevor Mason and Sue Hayward. It is hoped that the new hub system adopted this year will continue to positively influence the number of young people playing golf.

The higher handicap players played an 18 hole stableford competition which was a keenly fought contest. The girls winner was Shannon Noble with 35pts with runner up Imogen Potter. The boys were led home by a great 80 gross for 44 stableford points from Henry Ridgeon (Stowmarket). Pictured below with his medal being presented by Trevor Mason. Well played to Alex Turner (42pts) and Finley Edwards (41pts) who completed the podium. The full result can be found by clicking on SCORES.

Congratulations to Josie Knights (Ipswich) who won the Girls Championship with a score of 156. A great afternoon round of 71 in the afternoon gave Sophie Kubitzek the runners up spot on 157 one shot further back was Melissa Coffey.

The handicap prize went to Sam Holland (9) from Bury St Edmunds who finished on Nett 141 (70 - 71).

The boys championship was equally close with early starter Reuben Harvey (3rd) setting the clubhouse total of 153. However he was eclipsed by Bailee Taylor who finished on 151 and Champion Patrick Coffee who followed up his morning round of 76 with 74 in the afternoon for a total of 150. It was great to see so many players wait to see the Mackensie Cup presented by President Martin Youngs. The full result can be seen by clicking on SCORES. Pictured below are the two winners Patrick Coffey and Sam Holland.

It just remains to thank Stowmarket Golf club for the use of their excellent course and facility. Also the staff and volunteers who made the day run smoothly were outstanding
